Bernard Ingham
Sir Bernard Ingham was born and educated in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. His first job was as a reporter on the Hebden Bridge Times, where he moved to the Yorkshire Post (1952-61) and the Guardian (1962-67) and then into the Government Information Service. He was Director of Information in the Department of Energy before becoming Chief Press Secretary to Margaret Thatcher in 1979. The first edition of Kill the Messenger was published in 1991 and Bernard Ingham's book on the culture of news management under New Labour, Wages of Spin, was published in 2003.
