Professor A. H. Halsey

Professor A. H. Halsey is an emeritus professor of the University of Oxford and a fellow of Nuffield College. He is internationally distinguished, being not only a fellow of the British Academy but also an elected member of American and European academies. He is listed by Sage magazine as being among the fifty wisest people in the UK and has been honoured academically with no fewer than a dozen doctorates or fellowships from British universities.

Professor Halsey's previous books include Trends in British Society since 1900 (1970), English Ethical Socialism (1988, with Norman Dennis) and Twentieth-Century British Social Trends (1999, with Josephine Webb). He delivered the 1977 BBC Reith Lectures, under the series title Changes in British Society.
